Engineering Review

8-Point DFM Review

Every CNC project goes through a manufacturability review before programming. Tool access, feature geometry, and tolerance stack-ups sorted out upfront.

Deep Pockets
01

Deep Pockets

Checking depth-to-width ratios so the cutter can reach without chattering.

Narrow Areas
02

Narrow Areas

Making sure internal features aren't too tight for available tool diameters.

Internal Corners
03

Internal Corners

Setting minimum fillet radii based on the smallest cutter we can run.

Limiting Features
04

Limiting Features

Flagging features that constrain how we fixture or access the part.

Outside Fillets
05

Outside Fillets

Edge treatments spec'd for function and finish.

Thin Walls
06

Thin Walls

Checking wall thickness so nothing deflects or vibrates during machining.

Holes
07

Holes

Depth-to-diameter ratio, tolerance class, and finish requirements reviewed.

Perpendicularity
08

Perpendicularity

GD&T callouts checked against datum surfaces.

CNC Options

Most programs end up mixing both. Domestic for parts that need to ship next week or can't leave the country. International when the math says so. We run both shops, so the routing call is ours to make.

1

Local

When you need parts fast and don't want to waste time with shipping or customs hiccups. Shorten your supply chain with our local machining.

2

International

Tight budget? We'll take your large-scale production international to maximize efficiency.

CNC Materials

Multiple material options can help you find the perfect fit, but too many options can complicate the decision process. Whether we're talking metals or plastics, we'll focus on functional requirements and explore common applications to find the best fit. The following metals and plastics are commonly used in CNC machining.

01. ABS

Tough and versatile plastic that cuts like butter. It's cost-effective and works well for a wide range of products. While it's not great for high-heat situations, it's great for most applications.

02. Nylon

Stronger than ABS with a smooth surface great for mechanical gears. Absorbing moisture over time makes it less than ideal for marine applications, and it can be tough on cutting tools during machining.

03. PEEK

Lightweight, high-strength and heat-resistant plastic perfect for advanced applications like medical and aerospace. It comes with a higher price tag but is a go-to when performance counts.

04. UHMWPE

UHMWPE is an exceptionally tough, chemical-resistant plastic with a naturally slippery surface. This makes it perfect for applications exposed to impact loads and bearing surfaces.

05. Aluminum

The most common general-purpose metal used in machining and for good reason. AL 6061 is versatile and budget-friendly. AL 7075 is a higher grade with excellent strength-to-weight characteristics.

06. Brass

Brass is a soft, easy-cutting metal often used for cosmetic applications due to its good-as-gold polish. It's also conductive, non-magnetic, and has natural anti-microbial properties.

07. Titanium

Titanium is known for its ultra-strength, corrosion-resistance, and biocompatibility. Although tough to machine, and more expensive, it is perfect for aerospace, medical, and robotics industries.

08. Steel

Whether it's Carbon Steel, SS 304, or SS 316, each type brings its own strengths in durability, corrosion-resistance, and machinability, perfect for a wide range of applications.

FAQ's

No minimum. We machine single prototypes through runs of 10,000+ pieces. Setup costs come down on a per-part basis with larger batches.

Standard is ±0.005" (±0.127mm). We can hold ±0.001" (±0.025mm) on critical features with the right fixturing and inspection. GD&T callouts are reviewed during DFM.

Yes. We machine aluminum, stainless, tool steel, brass, copper, titanium, and engineering plastics, Delrin, PEEK, Ultem, nylon, polycarbonate. Material sourced to ASTM/AMS specs.

STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs), and SolidWorks native preferred. 2D drawings in PDF for tolerances, finish, and thread callouts. Creo, NX, and CATIA files also accepted.

Polishing, anodizing (Type II and III), bead blasting, powder coating, PVD plating, EDM texturing, surface grinding, and heat treating. Multiple finishes can go on one part.

As fast as 3 days for simple parts in common materials. Standard is 5–10 business days depending on complexity, material, and quantity. Expedited options available.

Yes. Five 5-axis machines at our China facility handle complex contoured surfaces, undercuts, and multi-face features in a single setup, fewer fixtures, better accuracy, no setup-induced tolerance stack.

ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified. CMM inspection available. FAI reports, material certs, and certificates of conformance provided on request.
